Dr. Zsofia Tengstrand
Welcome to our practice. In getting to know you, my concerted goal will be to nurture a safe, non-judgmental environment in which you can feel thoroughly comfortable expressing and discussing your innermost personal thoughts, issues, and concerns with me, and experience the full range of your emotions, knowing that you are being truly heard. My approach is solution focused. If you become my client, I will consider us a team working together, and will always listen to you empathetically, to help you reach the root causes of your distress or unwanted behaviors, and guide you toward emotional stability, self-acceptance and a fulfilling life. While I treat individuals of all ages, I am aware that children often have more difficulty connecting with and trusting new adults. I have extensive experience treating kids and I strive to think outside the box in order to bond with them and put them at ease. In treating both adults and children, I endeavor to foster thoughtful and productive therapeutic outcomes. My practice includes patients of all ages who struggle with symptoms of depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, autism, and behavior disorders.
My therapy always begins with a multifaceted, comprehensive evaluation that guides me to the variables that may factor into your treatment and reveal prospects for your sustained emotional and behavioral health and happiness. I utilize an integrative approach, so your therapy may include a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Existential Therapy, Play Therapy, as well as Mindfulness and Motivational practices. I am a certified MATCH provider, which is an evidence-based modular approach to treat anxiety, depression, trauma, and behavioral problems. My techniques have been proven through extensive research, yet I will encourage you to take an active role in your own treatment process, especially during the goal-setting stage, as it is you yourself who will ultimately make changes in your life and behavior. I welcome patients with diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds; additionally, I have experience and enjoy working with individuals who identify with the LGBTQIA community. My native language is Hungarian, but I am fluent in English and Romanian.
I received a Psy.D degree in School Psychology, a C.A.G.S. degree in School Psychology, and an M.A. degree in Professional Psychology – all from William James College, in Newton MA. I also hold an M.A. in Psychological Counseling and Intervention from Babes-Bolyai University, in Romania. While I treat patients of all ages, I do possess an extensive background working with the school-aged population. I worked directly with and I have provided guidance to teachers, parents, caregivers, and other educational professionals working with children with various behavioral and emotional challenges. In this capacity, I have worked at Judge Baker Children’s Center, in Boston MA, Clearview Horizons, in Andover MA, and as the school psychologist at Mountain View Middle School, in Goffstown NH, among others.
Whoever you are, whatever is standing in your way, whatever you may be struggling to overcome, I look forward to working with you to help you recognize and become your best self and enjoy your life with comfort, confidence, optimism, and, hopefully, joy. I am here to help you navigate any obstacles you are facing. Please know that it is always OK to reach out for help.
